Geri B. Barish

Nonprofit

Geri B. Barish is a tireless Long Island advocate who has spent more than four decades at the forefront of breast cancer awareness, legislation, and community outreach. Her journey into activism began from personal tragedy—after her 13-year-old son Michael was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, she herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986, just one week before his passing. Fueled by a mother’s love, she transformed grief into advocacy, eventually becoming Executive Director of Hewlett House, a center operated by the nonprofit 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Coalition.
