I practice hospital medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center and served as Hennepin's internal medicine residency director for ten years. I have global health experience, including running a residency program in Laos for two years and working in Aceh after the tsunami in 2004. I am passionate about social justice, caring for underserved populations, training the next generation of physicians, and giving back to society so everyone can succeed and thrive.

Program Director, Internal Medicine
About:
My undergraduate degree is from Johns Hopkins and my medical degree is from the University of Wisconsin. After medical school I volunteered in Alaska and Costa Rica for a year, then began internal medicine residency at Hennepin County Medical Center. After residency and a Chief Resident year, I worked as a hospitalist in Minneapolis. In 2004 I earned a DTMH from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and in 2005 joined the International Rescue Committe in Aceh to help with relief efforts after the tsunami. I left Aceh for Laos, where I ran an internal medicine residency for nearly two years and helped create infrastructure so Lao graduates could pursue fellowships in Thailand. I returned to Minnesota late in 2006 and worked as a teaching hospitalist for eight years before taking over as Program Director for the internal medicine residency at Hennepin County Medical Center. I have served in this role for a decade. I love being a hospitalist at Hennepin and working with residents and medical students. I am married to a Medicine-Pediatrics hospitalist and have two teenage children.
