Currently serving as a consultant at Sierra Infectious Diseases in Reno, Dr. Murphy holds the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as the medical advisor to the Washoe County Health District, further demonstrating his commitment to public health.

Dr. Murphy's scholarly contributions are extensive, with authorship of numerous abstracts, articles, and chapters on HIV disease, central nervous system infections, viral diseases, parasitology, and antibiotic management. His expertise has earned him fellowships with prestigious organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
