He was instrumental in launching the Latino Theological Studies Program at McCormick, empowering Latino students and pastors to serve their communities. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the Spanish Coalition for Jobs, the Spanish Coalition for Housing, and various other organizations aimed at improving living conditions for Latino communities.
Beyond his work in social justice, Mr. Cordova’s military career is equally impressive. Commissioned as a Navy Chaplain in 1981, he served both domestically and abroad, including a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea during the conflict in Beirut. His military service earned him multiple commendations, including the Navy Achievement Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. His transition to the Army Reserves led to further recognition of his leadership and commitment, and he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2006 after a distinguished career.
Mr. Cordova’s impact is far-reaching. From his involvement in youth programs like Helping Hands, which he helped establish in the early 1970s, to his current work with the Indian Health Service's Project Zero Suicide initiative at the Gallup Indian Medical Center, he has continuously sought to make a difference in the lives of others. His work in diverse settings, including military bases and various social services, speaks to his adaptability and unwavering dedication to those in need.
His contributions extend beyond his professional life. A proud family man, Mr. Cordova is married to Kristen Hostmeyer, a professional social worker, and is the father of three daughters, grandfather to nine grandchildren, and great-grandfather to six. His family's tradition of public service, which dates back to his grandfather Pablo A. Cordova, a self-taught lawyer in 19th-century New Mexico, continues to inspire his work.
