Rio Rancho, NM – The Global Directory of Who’s Who is proud to recognize Jan Perry Esten, Senior Project Engineer of Hughes Aircraft Company, for his remarkable contributions to Aerospace Engineering and Innovation.
A graduate of Northrop Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, Mr. Esten has dedicated his career to pushing the boundaries of Aircraft and Aerospace Innovation. Over the 33 years with Hughes Aircraft Company, he has been honored with numerous accolades, including awards for his achievements on the successful Surveyor Lunar Lander Program, the Sea Lite Beam Director (SLBD) Program, and the Advanced Infra-red Measurement System (AIRMS) Boeing 720 Aircraft Modification and Test Program. Other experience includes several years as a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer, an Environmental Test Engineer, and a Designer of many innovative Mechanical Devices. He was given the High Achiever Award in 1990. Retirement from Hughes came in September 1999.
Afterwards Mr. Esten enjoyed working on an Ion Powered Engine Program in Monument Colorado, and the production of an Anti-insurgency Airplane, designated AT-6B, in Wichita Kansas. Leaving the technical world, he enjoyed two years as a Slot Machine Technician in a Casino and another two years as a Police Department Evidence Custodian, both in Cripple Creek Colorado.
Mr. Esten holds a Commercial Airplane Pilot License with an Instrument Rating.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Esten was a dedicated family man with wife, Ann, and one daughter and two sons. He has had the heart felt loss of his wife of 61 years and their daughter, both from natural causes. His two boys and he are very close and often do things together. In his leisure time he enjoys Toy Electric Train Railroading, a passion that mirrors his meticulous attention to detail and appreciation of Engineering marvels.
When asked about his lifetime of working his reply was, "Simply fantastic, sometimes spectacular, at times seemingly surreal, and always enjoyable. Working with all kinds of people and doing all kinds of things is a career well done."
