Dr. Douglas Murphy, a board-certified orthopedic and trauma surgeon with more than three decades of experience, specializes in joint replacement and minimally invasive orthopedic procedures. A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Murphy has played an active leadership role in Maryland healthcare, previously serving a six year term the first Chief of the Medical Staff at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital when it opened in 2014 and currently serving on the Board of Trustees for Holy Cross Health. Since 2011, he has focused primarily on anterior and minimally invasive hip replacement techniques, performing thousands of joint replacement and arthroscopic procedures.

Dr. Uchechi Iweala, a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Medical School. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at George Washington University, he pursued fellowship training in orthopedic spine surgery at New York University. Dr. Iweala specializes in the treatment of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disorders, as well as nerve entrapment and complex musculoskeletal conditions. He is also skilled in robotic and minimally invasive spine procedures and remains active in international medical initiatives, including surgical projects in Ghana, South Africa, and Nigeria. He is a member of the Lumbar Spine Research Society, the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Nadim Hallal, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement and sports injury treatment, earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Maryland, followed by fellowship training in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital. With more than a decade of experience, Dr. Hallal focuses on both surgical and non-surgical orthopedic treatments to help patients recover mobility and return to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Joshua Martin, a board-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, specializes in advanced non-surgical treatments for musculoskeletal pain. Certified in musculoskeletal ultrasound with the prestigious RMSK credential, Dr. Martin earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine after graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University. He completed his residency at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab through Northwestern University and fellowship training in Sports and Regenerative Medicine at the New Jersey Regenerative Institute. Dr. Martin focuses on regenerative and orthobiologic therapies, and he serves on the Biologics Curriculum Committee for the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, helping develop national standards for regenerative medicine education.

The practice also includes Dr. James E. Gilbert, MD, CDR, USN, a respected orthopedic surgeon and former Commander in the United States Navy, whose distinguished career and leadership in orthopedic medicine further strengthen the expertise of the Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy team.
