Dr. Gilbert received his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University in 1990 and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Duke University. He further specialized in sports medicine through a fellowship at Baylor University and the Tom Landry Sports Center in Dallas, Texas. His academic background also includes postgraduate studies at Princeton University and undergraduate studies at Amherst College. Throughout his career, Dr. Gilbert has been dedicated to advancing orthopedic care through clinical expertise, research, and innovation.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Gilbert proudly serves as a Commander in the Medical Officer Corps Reserves of the United States Navy Reserve, providing orthopedic care to service members, veterans, and their families. He has served as head team physician for several professional organizations, including U.S. Soccer, D.C. United, Washington Spirit, and the Professional Bull Riders. Specializing in arthroscopy and sports-related procedures such as ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, shoulder and ankle stabilization, cartilage restoration, and meniscal repair, Dr. Gilbert is also recognized as a thought leader in orthobiologics and regenerative medicine. He remains an active member of leading professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
