A valedictorian at New Providence High School, he went on to attend Rutgers University as an undergraduate, where he set long-distance track records, before earning his medical degree from Yale Medical School in 1968. His early academic excellence laid the foundation for a career defined by service, adaptability, and clinical breadth.
Following medical school, Dr. Badgley completed a rotating internship at Tripler Army Medical Center from 1968 to 1969 and entered military service through ROTC as a Captain. In 1969, he became a flight surgeon at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and was later deployed to Korea, where he served as a detachment commander and flight surgeon for two helicopter divisions, the 9th and 7th, during the Vietnam War era. Rising to the rank of Major, he spent a year overseas supporting frontline aviation units, exemplifying leadership under pressure and commitment to the welfare of service members.
After completing three years of military service, Dr. Badgley transitioned to civilian practice in 1971, establishing himself as a general practitioner in the San Francisco Bay Area. His career spanned a wide range of clinical settings at a time before emergency medicine was a formal specialty, including industrial medicine, hospital-based emergency care, and hospitalist roles. He served in numerous hospitals throughout the Bay Area, including facilities in Redwood City, Mountain View, San Mateo, Burlingame, and the East Bay, and later worked extensively in emergency medicine and hospitalist care at St. Joseph Hospital and general Hospital in Eureka California. The Global Directory of Who’s Who honors his extraordinary career, marked by versatility, service, and a lasting impact on both military and civilian healthcare.
