Bernier’s extensive military and leadership experience, coupled with a lifetime of service and advocacy, continues to guide the organization in its mission to support veterans and foster community engagement.
Capt. Bernier, a veteran with an illustrious career in intelligence and government service, is celebrated for his expertise in Intelligence Analysis, Team Building, and Leadership. His outstanding academic background includes a Master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, where he achieved a 4.0 GPA, and a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art from St. Louis University.
A member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) since 1993, Capt. Bernier has held multiple leadership roles, culminating in his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors. In May 2015, he concluded his term as Department Commander for the State of Connecticut, showcasing his relentless dedication to improving the lives of veterans. His exceptional service has earned him several honors, including the prestigious Meritorious Service Award, Target Officer of the Year 1990, and other commendations for his impactful work.
An Eagle Scout and 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Capt. Bernier remains active in numerous veteran and military organizations, including the Military Officers Association of America. His leadership and passion extend to his contributions to air power operations during the Gulf War, where he played a pivotal role.
Beyond his professional accolades, Capt. Bernier is a passionate scuba diver, golfer, and photographer, engaging in various hobbies that reflect his well-rounded approach to life.
